SpiritualPractices and CAM
SpiritualPractices and CAM
Prompt1: Spiritual practices to improve health
Spiritualpractices allow a person to stay connected to meaningful and holythings thus, the practices allow people to strengthen their healthand wellbeing. Although people define spirituality differently andcommit to its components differently, studies show that spiritualpractices result in enhanced wellbeing and health (Koenig, King, &Carson, 2012). I engage in numerous spiritual practices such asprayer, meditation, volunteering for charity and spiritual group, andmaking music, which involves playing, singing, and listening tosacred music. These practices elicit feelings of relaxation, calm, hope, compassion, and clear-headedness, as well as, enhance attentionand concentration, which ultimately affect my overall healthpositively. Studies show that prayers and spiritual meditation canhelp diminish the symptoms and risks of depression, as well as,induce a feeling of success in everyday commitments (Koenig et al.,2012). It is imperative to note that these spiritual practices helpme to transcend myself to question the purpose and meaning of lifethus, I manage to seek harmony, connect with supportive people, comprehend suffering and cope with challenges, and remind myself ofall the good things. By allowing me to focus on the good things andcomprehending the complexities of life challenges, spiritualpractices enable me to enhance my overall wellbeing.
Prompt2: Utilization of CAM in my facility
CAM is used as a comprehensive and imperative system of healthcarein my facility. In most cases, we assimilate CAM to treat patients’physiological, spiritual, emotional, psychological, and lifestyleneeds. Moreover, we do not negate the rationality of conventionalhealing remedies, but we use CAM to extend, enhance, and supplementthe array of nursing practices. The facility recommends lifestyle anddietary changes, meditation, and exercise. Frass et al. (2012) assertthat CAM should integrate alternative care and non-medicinalmodalities to help in the healing process. The CAM practicesassimilated include effective and safe treatment options, idealpatient-physician relationship, search for underlying causes, patientparticipation, and cost-effective treatment. The use of CAMmodalities has greatly increased the success rate and offeredcomprehensive guidance to healing processes. The process involvespatient participation and patient-physician relationships, which havegreatly enhanced success, as well as, cut costs, for example, theintegration of dietary and lifestyle changes into patients’ healingprocesses have cut costs and heightened the healing process (Frass etal., 2012). However, the integration of CAM modalities is still lowespecially because of system complexities and a bureaucraticenvironment. To enhance the integration, the facility needs tocollaborate with health care providers, introduce exercise facilitiesfor patients, and introduce spiritual practices such as meditation, gatherings, and music into the healing process.
