Sourcesof Information
In this case, I focused on the topic “lack of knowledge aboutlifestyle changes needed for managing diabetes.” I used the WaldenLibrary to search for the required articles in the specific databasesthat were CINAHL and Ovid. Later, I also used Google search engine toidentify the information and sources that will help in the topic. Thesearch from the library databases provided journal articles that wereclearly professional as opposed to the Google search engine that evenhad blogs and other informal websites that might be misleading. Theinformation from Google lacked the academic arguments and informationrequired making them unreliable.
First, I had to use the CINAHL database, where I found “Barriers todiabetes management: patient and provider factors” by Nam et al.,(2011). The article had the evidence that was more applicable in thiscase and clarified a number of issues on the same topic. Later, theGoogle search provided multiple sources like the “Challenges inmanaging elderly people with diabetes in primary care settings inNorway” presented by Graue et al., (2013). The article had theacademic information required and in overall it was a well-researchedpaper. Instead, most of the sources on Google were a bit non-academicand had information that was not presented in a professional manner.
Based on my professional experience, I believe that both sources arewell researched, peer-reviewed and have the required information too.In this case, I will counsel the patients and urge them to adopt ahealthy lifestyle that will help them in changing their lives as theykeep diabetes away (Inzucchi et al., 2012). I will only use sourcesthat will reveal some specific aspects and identify how the patientslack the knowledge (Johnson et al., 2011). I will most certainlyadvise my fellow nurses to use the same journal articles because theyare appropriate.
