The following programs are organized by the government of Canada for the early childhood development of children in their country (1. ): Parenting programs (some recommendations of early years study, point 1, Ref 1. ): Parenting programs provide parents with awareness, support, and skills for the early development of their children (some recommendations of early years study, point 1, line 1, Ref 1. ). Parenting program is important as parents need to understand the right inputs to be given to their children so that it helps in the positive development of children.
Children in early childhood are in the stage of rapid growth and he is learning and understanding through observations and attitude and behavior of his parents. Providing support at the right time to the children helps them to gain trust in their parents and gives them an emotional boost. The parents should not be too restrictive or too carefree about their children. Handling discipline problems: This program involves the padiatric experts and psychologists who advice parents of young children in handling disciplinary problems.
Workshops and annual meetings are conducted by child welfare organizations where experts give advice to the parents on how to handle the child’s indiscipline and make him learn what he has done is not correct with out being harsh on him. It involves distraction or make him engrossed in some other work like games and television. Relationship building between adults and children: (some recommendations of early years study, point 2, Ref 1. ) Parents and educators are taught new ways to nurture their children and develop responsive relationships between adults and children.
A responsive relationship between the adult and the child can be maintained by parents spending time with their children, helping them with their homework, taking them for a walk or ride. Hence these small things in the daily life of parents strengthen the relationship between the parents and the children. The Canadian government has organized programs regarding relationship building between adults and children. It involves spending some time with children which will help parents to understand their children better.
Daily routines like going outdoors with them while buying groceries or while going for a morning walk helps them to get accustomed with the surroundings and the outside world. It is also necessary to gain the trust of the child. It is developed by being parent’s presence felt every time the child needs them, it is important to attend the child if he feels uncomfortable. Parents must give the child a feeling of “You are always there for him”. Parent participation in children’s programs
Encourage parent participation in play and learning programs for children for interactive and supportive learning both for adults and children, and to encourage parents to take a more active role with children’s play and reading in the home. (“Interventions and programs on early childhood development) (“Page # 2”) Safe and welcoming environments for children Create programs and spaces where children of all backgrounds and abilities will feel loved and valued — this will stimulate brain development, learning, and self-confidence.
A welcoming environment is created in pre-preps or playschools where children learn a lot by interacting with their counterparts through games, studying together. In play schools children are kept under a colorful environment where the walls are colorfully painted. Various objects are drawn and teaching of children through methods of visualization is most preferred. The children from various ethnic backgrounds interact with each other with out any pre-intuition in the minds of children where everybody is valued equally and loved. This helps in inculcating the feelings of unity and oneness right from the beginning.
Play-based learning for young children (6th topic, Ref. 1) Here problems are organized for play-based problem-solving learning for young children, guided by early educators and parents. The other games relate to visual learning and tallying. The play based learning for young children helps them understand and learn better. Play based learning make children enjoy their learning and keeps them focused. This includes community play groups for parents, caregivers and young children, and ongoing early childhood development programs. Resources for early childhood development (7th topic, Ref 1)
Government programs includes toy and resource libraries, nutrition programs, and cultural events for children, including things such as mobile toy and book lending libraries, theme-based learning/play kits for children. Focus on family needs (8th topic, Ref 1) Focus on family needs provides families at risk with information and referral services, prenatal and postnatal support, home visitation networks, access to health care, family counseling and support to home care providers. Government has also introduced emergency help lines for parents to help them in post natal care of children.
If necessary there are home visitation experts help parents and advice them regarding proper care of children. One of the main problems seen is that parents forget to keep dangerous or non-edible objects beyond the reach of young children which can become very dangerous at times as children have tendency to put everything in to their mouths at that age. There are also provisions for mothers to have additional nursing breaks where she can take care of her children and in many workplaces there is provision for creches where the child is kept till the mother is working. Government has made special efforts to engage and encourage the most isolated families to participate and benefit from the program. The information about the families at risk is gathered by various surveillance methods and records sent by local community services. The government uses media as a source of communication for influencing the low income groups to participate in its programs and gain long term benefits. Community links (10th topic, Ref 1) Community link program has helped to link the early childhood development activities and family programs to other activities and cultural events in the community, to include children as an important part of the social structure. Public awareness and advocacy (11th topic, Ref 1) Public awareness and advocacy program engages in ongoing advocacy and public awareness at a community and political level to highlight the importance of early childhood development.
