  1. Describe your career path to your current position. Include information about education and experiences.

The interaction and interview conducted with a nursing information expert was an amazing experience. The interviewee eloquently expressed himself was while describing how his nursing career path has been, some of the challenges he has faced to his current position. He suggested that landing a nursing career job was one of the aspirations he always wanted to achieve in life. Despite the fact that he was working with the biggest and most famous hospital, serving and helping patients was one of the things that he enjoyed most. The interviewee had Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing as well as a Master’s Degree in Informatics. His interest to advance his education by pursuing a Master’s Degree was majorly attributed to his passion to become a Nurse Informatics Specialist. Equally important, the interviewee was a licensed medical practitioner hence the permit to offer his services. He has been in the same position as a nursing information expert for a decade and certified by ANCC. Apart from clinical experience that the interviewee has, he had previously worked with healthcare software vendor for a period of 5 years. The experience gained from his previous work has really enabled him in designing clinical documentations and systems as well as electronic health records.

  1. Discuss the value of best evidence as a driving force in delivery of nursing care at your facility.

The interviewee affirmed that his passion towards a nursing job was one of the driving forces that inspired him to keep on offering quality healthcare services to patients at his facility. He further suggested that offering nursing care was the best career because of the close coordination between the management and healthcare professionals to serve patients. In addition, the interviewee claimed that technology has played a substantial role in perfecting their services hence increasing their commitment to provide better services to the patients.

  1. What safeguards and decision-making support tools are embedded in patient care technologies and information systems that support safe practice at your facility?

The invention and use of diagnostic support, availability of clinical guidelines and computerized reminders to both the healthcare professionals and the patients were cited as the safeguards and decision-making support tools that are embedded in patient care technologies and information systems which support safe practice at the hospital. Also, documentation of templates were identified by the interviewee to be among the tools which enhance safe practice of nursing.

  1. Tell me about patient care technologies that have improved patient care at your facility.

Notably, the interviewee postulated that the widespread use of patient care technologies was also another crucial factor at the hospital that positively contributed to the quality of services and the manner in which patients were treated. They include barcode mediation systems, connected cardiac care and electronic health records.

  1. What groups of healthcare workers rely on you to collect high quality information/data and how is that information utilized?

Social workers were established to be the group of healthcare workers that rely on him to collect high quality information or data. First, the social workers have to find out the most critical challenge or major problem that the society is facing. Based on the data or information collected, the social workers will then be in a position to identify how they are going to help patients and the members of the society.

Evidently, interprofessional collaboration is of significant importance since it enables healthcare professionals from diverse backgrounds to share their various perspectives thus improving the quality of services. However, the interviewee claimed that lack of interprofessional collaboration inhibits communication and sharing of information negatively impacted his role since it sometimes compromises the quality of services which otherwise could have been done in a more better and efficient manner.

  1. How will completing this interview impact your practice as a BSN-prepared nurse? Give specific examples.

Completing the interview was so beneficial and had a positive impact to my practice as a BSN-prepared nurse. It made me realize the importance how crucial interprofessional collaboration is in ensuring that nurses and all other medical practitioners provide high quality and specialized care to the patients through information sharing. More importantly, the interview made me realize the significant role technology is playing in the healthcare sector for instance, it has led to barcode medication systems and the filling of electronic health records hence improving service delivery. That will inspire me to encourage all healthcare facilities to embrace the use of technology in providing their services.
