This assignment relates to ethics, values and social responsibility concerning to the organizational walk of life. In the following pages ethics and values are explained in detail. Basically nowadays an organization, without any concern for ethics, is on its way to downfall. All the organizations are bound to their customers with relation to social and ethical responsibility. Ethics and values are intrinsically related to each other, one supporting the other. And they are based on each person’s background and thus vary. Many types of ethics and values are present and are discussed.
The ethical issues the companies face are also mentioned along with a way to overcome them. Ethics, a very vague term holds a lot of depth which shifts and changes according to the perception of its viewer, and thus it can’t be merely subjected to being a part of right and wrong, good or evil. However the central core of its meaning is perceived to be a motivation in itself, which sums up to a satisfying life or a dissatisfying life. It is simple much larger in meaning than morality or moral conduct. It’s the thing which makes us who we are and leads our life towards a great path.
Value, a relative term, can be inferred by measures of personal honesty of our own implementation(Sims,2003). There are various types of values like ethical, social or aesthetic etc. Values in some people’s opinion are considered to be intrinsic in nature however most are of a subjective nature with a constantly varying approach. Values are under a constant exposure with the exterior world where it is bombarded with new and innovative ideas thus forcing it to constantly change, to think differently then it previously had, to question the judgments and the old ways.
But the change in values is a slow process and evolves through a long period of time. Integrity or honesty is considered to applying your values in each and every aspect of life with blatant disregard to what others might have to say. It is not bending to the outside pressure even under extreme duress. However suitable implementations of values have to be at the right time and place for having the maximum outcome. Our cultural values are set before we are even born and are followed through by our ancestors.
Cultural values are shared by a number of people, not necessarily related,because it is born out from the environment in which we live in. The element of choice or free will isn’t present in this as we don’t get to choose them. Also they aren’t usually subjected to criticism. It is usually the personal values that come under that pressure. However personal values have been born with a choice. We can choose whether or not to shun our values at any point in life. Also personal values play a vital role in our decision making process.
In every decision making process a comparison of the values of each choice is closely considered and then we choose on the basis of the conclusions drawn. But then again it depends as to when the personal values were developed. If they were developed in early stages of our life then it’s highly improbable that they are going to change easily. Such types of values are met with high resistance power. These personal values can be born out of any factor or systems as many things influence them in early stages of life. Personal values do not have the universal phenomena in them i. e.
every family has a set of different values. They might not be totally different from others but some level of variation is almost always there. Personal values are shaped by families, nation and the environment we live in. Thus it is relatively safe to say that each person has a different set of values depending on his/her brought up. And they attach different weights of importance to their feeling and events on the basis of these values. Members of groups or cultures share a set of values among them which decides what is considered to be important for them. It leads to their traditions and set of beliefs.
