The research question

Does the frostbite of the hands that lead to amputation have any healthy challenges to the patient and how are they addressed?

Description of subjects

There is only one subject in this case, a 40-year-old man who had a serious frostbite on the hands. The subject was selected through a randomized controlled trial.

The level of evidence

The level of evidence presented here is 1. This is because all the evidence obtained has its roots in the randomized controlled trial which is properly designed. Likewise, there are interventions and recommendations that are made on this particular client.

Type of research design

The single-case research design is employed in this case because the forty year old man is the only subject who is used in the whole study.

The intervention used

They involved the rehabilitations that began at home and lasted for one month. Likewise, there was intensive occupational therapy that took a period of 8 months.

The types of measurements

The method used to gather the data is observation and it is very valid and reliable.

Statistical analyses uses

There are no statistical analyses.

Results of the study

  • The patient did not experience the nightmares

  • He had the capacity to drive a car whose transmission was automatic.

  • He was able to put laces on his shoes

  • He was able to work full time and on part-time basis

Conclusions

There were significant changes as the subject was able to conduct some activities that he was unable to do initially. He, therefore, performed his office duties successfully and the method could help other clients who are struggling to fit to their occupations.

Limitations of the study

No limitation is identified. The possible disadvantages are:

  • Only one subject was used

  • The results may differ from subject to subject

Applications to my learning

This article is useful because it will equip me with the knowledge to help those individuals with the frostbite of the hands condition. People with this condition could be helped to adapt to different environments.
