Humanistic Parenting essay

Respectful communication is a derived from Dr. Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication process. It is posited that the clear and transparent expression of one’s needs must be encouraged and developed and that empathetic listening must also be expected from an individual. There are four specific behavioral posts which are seen as important ingredients in the process. These are: – Observing but devoid of the evaluating aspect – Transparent expression of affective elements – Ascertaining which needs are attached to what feelings

– Verbalizing one’s identified needs to satisfy them. Furthermore, empathetic listening entails the involvement of effective listening which includes “observing, feeling and needing, and communicating” in order that the other individual is also completely understood (Respectful Communication Training). 2. In the academic or educational setting, what are the best ways that humanistic parenting can be implemented, especially where working closely with students is concerned?

This era of technological breakthrough and the experience of people with everything that is at a high speed in almost every aspect of their lives, the relationships that we engage in have become complex and stressful in most cases. The need to be valued and appreciated at times is relegated to the further recesses of our minds because at times it has become very taxing to the energy. Discussion s limited because it would start to be a waste of time. However, human needs are acceptably difficult to ignore for long.

There are sure to be ramifications somewhere and the price to pay is too high in the end. Humanistic parenting concept is transferable across culture, across age groups and gender. The educational setting is most appropriately a field where this process must be developed and implemented. The rationale is simply because just as it is the same in other various contexts, people need to talk and express what they have in their minds. Students in this instance are recognized all the more as requiring the attention and opportunity to express while someone is empathetically listening.

In the study of human behavior, we are deeply affected by how people treat us although at such varying degrees. Nevertheless, in an academic set-up, humanistic parenting reduces the incidence of conflict and in most cases helps resolve issues and probable relational problems when a person is provided the chance to discuss and given the opportunity for constructive dialogue. For teachers/instructors as they work with students, they must develop the following abilities: – the awareness of the style of communication especially when talking about intricate and tough issues

– treating every individual as a unique person – Recognizing that what terminologies or symbolic representations we use may actually mean differently by others. – Not to interpret silence of people as anything other than “silence. ” – To fully comprehend what judging may contribute to the whole communication process (Guidance for difficult times). When students in a classroom setting are communicated that they are of value and worth, they respond well in most cases accordingly.

This encourages healthy respect and openness among the learners and especially between the mentor and the individuals in the setting.
