Explanation of the bible verse

1

Donating shoes are more ethical than donating money. Donation of shoes boosts economic productivity.

Donating shoes eliminate or reduce barriers to the economic productivity of the poor such as diseases, specifically elephantiasis.

According to the virtue ethics, charity should be person-based. Therefore, charity should focus on providing what a person need most to be economically productive (Sandler, R. L. 2007).

“Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with&nbsphis&nbsphands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need” (Ephesians 4:28)

The same way thieves are given the ability to be productive, the poor can be empowered to produce their own.

2

The high price facilitated raising of charity funds. They were donating to the poor.

The customers pay the high prices for the shoes and eyeglasses since they know that it’s a way of helping the poor.

According to the utilitarianism, the customers pay such high prices because of the projected usefulness of the charity (Hitchcock et al. 2003).

“He who has pity on the poor lends to the&nbspLord,And He will pay back what he has given.” (Proverbs 19:17)

Human beings believe that giving to the poor brings back a good fortune.

3

Yes. An established company can improve its ethical standards through enhancing its corporate social responsibility (CSR).

CSR enables a company to assess the needs of the surrounding communities and formulate appropriate intervention.

The golden rule recommends companies to treat the surrounding communities the way they expect to be treated (Chiles D 2013).

“ Therefore encourage one another and build each other up…” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

When a company addresses the needs of the community, the community will be encouraged to participate in activities and processes of the company.

4

TOMS should adjust their buy-one-give-one-away model. They should reduce the cost of purchasing shoes and eyeglasses.

Reducing the price of the products will result in an increase in the sales as well sustainability of the business.

Basing on the utilitarianism theory, the outcome of reducing the price of shoes and eyeglasses is beneficial to the company and thus, appropriate decision (Hitchcock et al. 2003.

“Those who disregard discipline despise themselves,&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbspbut the one who heeds correction gains understanding” (Proverbs 15:32)

TOMS should consider criticism because it helps the company improve.
