Q.1
Acrime is either a voluntarily commission or omission of an act thatis punished by a fine, jail term or both. For an act to be considereda crime, it must be prohibited and penalized by the law of thecountry, where it is committed (Verstraeten, 2000). In a businessenvironment, there is a crime called conspiracy, whereby two or morepeople agree to commit a crime. Conspiracy existed even when theunlawful act was never committed. For example, planning to rob a bankis a conspiracy and those involved in the planning are guilty even ifthe act does not take place. Still, in a business environment, thereare crimes against property such as larceny which is wrongful takingand carrying away of personal property of another person with intentto steal. Embezzlement is also a criminal behavior whereby anemployee is entrusted with property of the business but appropriatesthis property to his or her own use (Verstraeten, 2000). For example,if a cashier in a supermarket is paid money by a customer and put themoney direct to his or her pocket, instead of putting it in the cashregistry, this is a criminal act which can be classified underembezzlement. Robbery is also another crime in the businessenvironment and is usually defined as a wrongful taking of personalproperty of another against another’s will by force or threat offorce.
Q.3
Under the rules in Leviticus, failure to abide by certain laws can result in death. One such law is in Leviticus 20:9, which indicates that “anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.” Another such law is found in Leviticus 20:10, which indicates that “if a man commits adultery with another man’s wife, he should be put to death.” Also, in Leviticus 20:11, “if a man has sexual relations with his father’s wife, he should be put to death.”
Leviticus has identified crimes that society has rightfully established to no longer constitute crimes against society. For instance, Leviticus 20:13 condemn gay marriages, but today, gay marriages are real and some societies have allowed them.
It is important to reinstate some crimes in the modern society for instance, one of the crimes that need to be reinstated is homosexuality. The modern society does not see homosexuality as a crime reinstating it as a crime would help in eliminating homosexuality. Another crime that should be reinstated is committing adultery.
Biblical punishments appropriately restore society since people fear death and curses, which the Bible presents as rewards to sinners. This helps in making society adhere to laws provided for in the Bible.
Some crimes provided for in the Bible need to be reinstated with a lesser punishment. For instance, Leviticus 5:1 says that “if you fail to testify against any wrongdoing you have witnessed, you will be held responsible.” Such testifying is supposed to be reinstated with a lesser punishment.
