Weare living in an era where thanks to technology we wake up to newinventions on a daily. Phones have evolved through series from theannoying, bulky and expensive to user-friendly, portable andaffordable gadgets. It is now possible for almost every teen andyouth to possess a mobile phone. In this era, we call themsmartphones. Thanks to their user-friendly interface, the user caninteract with it on a personal level. As a result, the owners becomeattached to their gadgets which they can now customize to make itmore of what they desire. For example, upon purchasing a smartphone,it comes with some pre-installed applications. The applications thatcome with the gadget are mostly for communication and games.

Auser can then delete the apps they don’t like or wish not to useand purchase or download other applications they like. A user candownload as many apps as the phone memory capacity can allow. Thanksto this feature a mobile phone user can navigate from game to game orone social media application to the next with little interferences. The battery is one limiting factor of the smartphones, but this hasnot hindered technologist from inventing cues to curb the menace.Battery capacities have increased in the recent years to sustain amobile phone’s user time. Gadgets like power banks that are highlyportable have also been made to charge up these smartphones at theconvenience of the user when their battery dies. Therefore, mobilephones are here to stay and if possible, improve. However, theproblems they have brought about are going nowhere.

Mobilephones have destructed the perfect parent-child relationship. It isdouble trouble if the parents are youngsters. The parent is on thephone as much as the child is. Other parents may argue that thetechnology has helped give them a piece of mind because they cancommunicate with their kids wherever they are as well as track them. One thing they forget, however, is that these digital mechanisms arein no way a replacement for real human interaction. Parent-childrelationships are very vital in instilling morals in the children, helping them solve their problems, appreciating their children’ssuccesses and failures as well as giving them invaluable advice thathelps them in their daily pursuits.

Itis common knowledge that parents have more knowledge compared totheir children thanks to their experience. Therefore, who better toadvice than their kids? Thanks to mobile slavery interactions betweenchildren and parents are minimal if any. Children result to lookingup to the internet in the hope that they get answers to whatever isbugging their young minds. The information most of the times ismisleading as it doesn’t offer the repercussions or is just wrong. As young people have not had the culture to trust their parents withtheir lives, they do not confide in anyone else as well. They choseto follow the internet guidelines they searched. The escalatingsuicidal rates among young people in America is proof enough of thismenace. Parents end up confused and depressed as their childrenalways seemed happy and in control of their lives before theirsuicidal attempts.

Mobilephones slavery has seen the downfall of many successful people. Thetime dedicated to phones by young people is rather long. Students, for example, have been late in submissions of their assignments orprobably never finished it at all. They end up failing in theirexaminations because they did not read. Young employees are inclusivein the casualties. Most of their masters have resulted in sackingthem because they never do anything productive thanks to their mobilephone addictions.

Haveyou tried to cut a group of teenagers off the network like cut theirWi-Fi connection or mobile network? If yes, then you have experiencedwhat mobile slavery has made our youth. I happened to experience thisscenario first hand. We attended a family vacation with most of mymother’s friends who tagged their families along as well. We stayedin a very luxurious hotel with a plethora of amenities ranging fromWi-Fi, a giant waterfall, a disco within, a video-game arcade andmany other activities aimed at catching the attention of teenagers. Most parents, however, chose not to pay for the Wi-Fi. I’ll tellyou this, most of the teenagers decided to lie in their beds in therooms or stay in the lobbies looking bored. Others chose to sneak outand drink alcohol they bought with their pocket money. Apparently, the young people’s minds have been corrupted because video-gamesand massive waterfalls are things worth exploring but they didn’tgive it a try. All these situations have caused problems that seemhard to fix.

Tohelp solve this menace, we have to agree that our mobile phones don’tconnect us to the outside world, but they create a wall between usand the neighboring community. We no longer remember a life beforeinstant access to the internet which is why we become vegetableswithout our mobile phones. The best and working solution would be toturn off our mobile phones for a period and explore our options. However, our phones are essential tools of our lives in as much as weinsist on the harm they cause. Therefore, we cannot afford to switchthem off completely. I have come up with better solutions that anyteenager would find flexible.

Oncein a while we should put the phone in silent mode to avoiddistractions. There are times we utterly can’t be disturbed and weknow that yet we let our phones disrupt us. Spare chunks of time tocompletely dedicate your focus on more important stuff like yourpartner and driving. Switch off the phone’s sound notification whenon vacations, extra household time or personal time to benefit andenjoy yourself completely

Turningthe phone’s notification flicker off is another solution. Thingsdon’t need to get awkward because we are oblivious of a text oremail instant notification. It will take a longer time to adjust tonot always checking your phone. However, this will make one create aparticular time to check and reply to texts or emails. Eventually, wereduce the urge to check our mobile phones whenever we see anotification flash.

Wheneverwe pick up our phones, we want to use them. Therefore, we ought to dothat instead of letting the cell phones “use us.” Every time wetake our phones to use we need to have a plan and stick to it. If wewant to access our emails and reply to an inbox, we ought to doexactly that. That will avoid us from doing other uncalled foractivities like browsing the internet.

Dependingon what we are doing we ought to screen our notifications. If we arebusy with family, for example, we don’t need to reply to everyonewho contacts us. We, therefore, need to establish the urgency of theperson in such a situation to decide if you require responding tothem immediately. No one on the other side knows if you are availableor not so you can choose to pick up the phone or not.

Thelast thing that we ought to do is set aside a time when we check ourphones so that we don’t miss out on anything important. Forexample, we can check our messages every once in five hours toprevent our messages from accumulating. However, the time we chooseto have check-ins depends on one’s personality. So it is up to aperson to figure out what works for them. The primary objectiveremains to refrain from checking our phones now and then.

Conclusion

Itis high time young people said no and stopped allowing theircellphones to use them. We are more powerful and intellectual beingsbecause our kind compiles mobile phones. So why not take charge anduse the cell phones instead? We ought to reclaim our attention spansto free our minds and attention. If revolving around our phones isone’s operating procedure, it means they have developed the mobileslavery habit and therefore need to take care of it. First, theyestablish that the cell phone slavery threat is there then work on itso that they can achieve change. Managing one’s cellphone in theright way will help the young people be more productive and reducetheir stress levels.
