Given the biological differences among men and women, the youth or students of Morgan State University were given surveys in order to determine whether boys and girls ranging from 18 to 20 years old have different mechanisms in coping with stress in a standard environment. 20 students were selected thus the results of the experiment show differences between their reactions but relatively, the results are not significantly different with each other by using the Student Stress Survey.
Introduction Youth, being in the stage of puberty and adolescence, experience different kinds of stress everyday. Since their body are changing and developing to its maturity, the young people may sometimes find it very hard to cope with stress that they encounter in their academes or in their work places if they already have part time jobs. According from biology and psychology books like that of Campbell (2000), boys and girls experience changes with the different age.
Girls undergo puberty on an earlier age than the boys that girls have more evident changes than the boys upon reaching the age of eight. Boys just experience the changes when they actually reach the age of ten when they have grown hairs over some selected parts of their bodies. There are reports that show how the gender separates men and women from each other. Debates were one every now and then having the topic about the might of the two genders taking into account the advantages and disadvantages of being a man or a woman.
Apparently, the approach of individuals may be affected by their activities, or for instances by the genetic or biological make-up of the body. With these in mind, it may be guessed that the responses of individuals may be greatly affected by their genders. Emotions are also part of their activity that gives them some driving force towards their lives. With every problem that the youth encounter today, it is important that there will be studies that will include testing how the youth nowadays cope up with stress. Method Participants
Ten black men and ten black women, all from the Morgan State University were the random chosen pool of people of the psychology department to participate in this study. All of them were exposed to 20 to 40 hours work in a week and were given surveys as their responses for the activity. Materials Since the students were given the chance to be exposed on stress, each of them is required to fill up the survey which will include testing their changes, ranging from their weights and internal or personal practices such as eating and sleeping.
Questions given to them are from ranking giving 1 for “not a problem at all” answer to 4 which is the “very much a problem” part. Procedure Given the parameters above, the 20 random chosen students were gathered for an orientation with their activity. It must be indirect though that they will undergo tests and examinations for they will not become so natural in performing for the study. Acting naturally is very important especially with the analysis of their results. It may cause a big deviation and a good plot of data will not be achieved. Results and Discussion
As each person experiences stress in their everyday lives, their responses do not actually vary with their gender and how they express them to other people. Journals have already been published that women really are more vocal than men in consulting and confronting with their frustrations and stresses in life (Hammilton and Fagot, 1998). It is very much a problem that men and women do not understand each other due to their different interpretation of words and actions. So as with stress, optimism and negativism may always be present and by which can be evident to both genders.
Students who were faced with their stressful activities cry out their acceptance of the work loads per day during the test proper. However, girls would have much stress when at the point of their examinations will their monthly period occurs. Hormonal imbalance can be one hindrance in performing many activities at times. And this adds up with the stress of the participants. Sleeping hours were decreased by hours thus making them less energetic with the day ahead. The results vary and can still be repeated with other students from other parts of the nation. Conclusion
Looking at the both sides of the story, it can be said that the suspected difference among men and women in coping up with stress is not really that evident in the test. By the looks of it, stress management which should be well taught to students must be implemented. Since the students in college have more strenuous activities than the high school and the young people, they must be guided with their activities and be monitored with what consumes their days. Students must learn the great importance of coping with stress on the early age, thus making them more matured and useful individuals in the future.
Recommendations The goal of the project was attained though at some points lack pertinent details especially with the survey. Questionnaires may still be modified to gain more specific results which can help in bring out good conclusions. The experiment was enriching but interviews about some parts of their personal lives may also be helpful in the evaluation.
